Thanks for the feedback guys. I know its not technically a cigar box bass, but I use all the same unconventional building techniques the nation is known and loved for! Classic unique instruments you can't get in a store anywhere. I've been practicing on it at home, but it will get its first test with the worship band tomorrow night. Should be fun! Doug

Doug,
I saw yer bass on the guitarz blog. I love that place! I've had to stop myself from going to eBay for some of Bertram's finds!

One last try with the link in the text since the add hyperlink function doesn't seem to work well: http://guitarz.blogspot.com/2010/04/vikster-homemade-shortscale-bas...

Just thought I'd join the bass group and post some pictures here of the bass I recently finished. It was featured at the Guitarz blog back in April (a great blog for guitar/bass ideas):

For the guys looking for bigger boxes for basses, try the wooden silverware trays that people keep the "good silver" in. They are a good size if you can find one that doesn't have a pull out drawer. I picked mine up at a junk store for $5.

Richard, thanks. The deco look comes from using turned wheels to make the scroll.

Sam, it's not a carved box, but built from slabs - no back. I chiseled and filed for some time tho - especially for the kerf at the top of the neck.

You can see the pocket for an upper piezo, under the fingerboard, opposite the kerf. This'll be facing 'down', and sealed under glue. This is supposed to pick up some nice overtones, on acoustic bass guitars.
