I picked up one fairly cheap at allelectronics.com--$4.50 plus shipping. The part number is HELPH-M.

They also have one at parts-express.com for $5.95, but from the picture, it looks like the same thing.

While I'm writing, anyone have a line on a cheap (working) oscilloscope? I'm trying to get some lab time from the local community college, but I can never catch the right person in.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the gadget to help you hold the wire to the jack so one can solder it? I know I have seen it on the site somewhere, but can't find it. Thanks.

Hello everyone, just wanted to let you know that I've posted another tutorial over at www.cbgitty.com. This one was written by our friend and fellow member Naz Nomad, and focuses on the basics of soldering CBG electronic components. If you have been wanting to try soldering, or have been wanting to improve your soldering skills, check out this article. Here is a direct link to the article.

Ignore last request - it works! So goodness knows what the other diagrams were about but maybe that link will help anyone else who has the same set up.

Hi guys. I need a wiring wizard! I am setting up a double neck guitar with two pickups made form 9v adaptors. Got seperate volume pots wired - fine - all working. But I want to add a 3 way selector switch so I can have either or both pickups on at any one time. I bought a switch with 8 connections in a row and have looked at various wiring diagrams which suggest joining the middle 2 as the output and then connect up the other leads in some mysterious magical fashion - fail!. Have tried various permutations but then found a diagram this morning which suggests the output from the coils should go into the middle 2 connections http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-technical/174280-wiring-3-way-selec.... Anyone got any ideas please? Preferably with pictures for dummies!

Cheers. Question answered then. String it up with what I have, see if it works OK, then get some proper strings later.

I have an old chinese strat copy I was given that I robbed the machine heads from, but I now have a hankering for rat rodding it as a 4 string, with a hinge/threaded bar for a saddle/bridge, as the electronics are all there and calling it the ghettocaster. I can fit 4 machines, and fill in the other two holes in the headstock.

As long as they're steel, they will excite the magnetic flux around the coil.

The more mass of steel you can get to vibrate above the pickup, the better output you'll get.

Nylon strings won't work, but bronze-wound with a steel core might, although it'll be quiet.
