To be more exact it will work and the preamp kit you have listed will need only an extra regular guitar jacksocket to complete the stand alone preamp.  Chop off the piezo rod and the rest fixes together like this

The cut piezo wire has only a thin plastic wire inside for the hot wire,  the metal braided wire around this is piched back and twisted to give you the ground wire.

Hmmm, will have to study this.  To be clear, I'm not making an amp, just a pre-amp/eq with inputs for instrument and mic incuded, feeding a out jack to a combo amp. Can I just plug in 2.5mm piezo jack to eq cut off piezo rod, and solder to out jack contact.?

Hi Phil,

I used a 2.5mm jack  wired to a normal guitar jack socket so this was then the input for the preamp using a switchable jack for the output to the amp so when not plugged in the signal goes to a smokey LM386 circuit for the speaker so it doubles as a mini travel amp.  The preamp was an old one with the battery box/jack missing so I had to improvise.  If you have a spare rod piezo the jack plug plus a bit of the cable will do the job.

Couldn't decide whether to put this under amps or this one.  Am looking at a guitar 5 band eq and preamp on ebay.  My queston....Instead of using the piezo, how can I connect an input jack to the eq ?  Cut off piezo and solder to a jack?

Want to make an external pre-amp with eq mounted in a smal cigar box for all my instruments with passive pickups.  Anyone else done this?  Anything on this site?

run the earth wire to the bridge from the ring connection of the jack - that's the only earth point you have.

bear in mind also that all volume pots load down the frequency response of the pickup, which is the sound we are used to. without a pot your humbucker will be brighter than normal, which may or may not be a good thing. you may love the sound. see how you go.
