Has anyone glued a rod piezo to the inside of the box, under the bridge? Were you pleased with the results? Any advice or response appreciated.

I wouldn't bother. Rod piezos are made to be installed under the saddle, between the bridge and the saddle. They require direct pressure (via the strings) to work properly. If you were to simply glue a rod to the inside of the box, you would get very little -if any- volume out of the piezo. You might be able to rig it up by sandwiching the rod between the inside of the lid and a piece of wood by gluing and clamping the hell out of it, but I kind of doubt the sound would be better than installing the rod the regular way. Just my 2cents, ...but then again, experimenting with these things is half the fun.

I agree with Suspect Device. It works on direct string pressure under the saddle.I used one on my first diddley bow mounted under a bone saddle and it rings like a bell....

I've only built one guitar and used a rod piezo on it. What I did was to put the rod under the lid, just underneath the saddle. I wedged it into place between the through-going neck and the lid. I had some 10mm space and I mounted it when there was no tension on the strings. The assembly can be moved around when there's no tension on it from the strings (but there's a snug fit) when stringed and tuned it sits an cannot be moved. It sounds very good to my limited experience and I don't believe it would sound much different if the rod was mounted in the saddle. Here's a, hopefully, explaining pic. (If I manage)

Btw. There's a small picture of how I did it on one of the photos of "the Texas ranger" that I've posted here on the nation earlier. The picture's kinda upside down. The lid is downwards in the picture.

That's interesting,Emlas.I still don't think the sound produced doing it like that would be as good as the 'conventional' way with a piece of bone directly on it but if it works for you and you're happy with it,that's great.

It's all about experimenting, having fun and having no rules!...

Thanks for the replies.

The reason I ask, is that I, too, thought that they needed to sit directly between the saddle and the bridge, but CB Gitty advertises that they may also be glued to the under-side of the lid, with good results.
