I'll get a video of this up at some point in time so you can see it. If you are starting off brand new this might be a good thing to practice at.

Getting started:
Cigar Box Guitar (I know it's a little obvious. I prefer a 3 string)
Strings 16, 24, and 32
Tuned g D G (actually it doesn't really matter you can tune it to your voice)

Stings from bottom to top
O -> g
O -> D
O -> G (this is the one closest to you)

Basic rhythm
g  --o--o--o--o
D  --o--x--o--x
G  --x--o--x--o

So basically you are alternating between the two top strings. It's good to practice this while watching movies or TV. You want to get to the point where you have a nice constant rhythm. It's all thumb work no pick used.

Once you get the rhythm done the next part is to add in the the third string (one furthest from you). Your pointer finger while be the one plucking the third string. Actually it's more of a pinch (I really need a video of this, *sigh*)

g --o--o--o--o---x--o--x--o
D --o--x--o--x---o--x--o--x
G --x--o--x--o---x--o--x--o

Repeat until you have a handle on it. Again a nice constant speed. 1,2,3,4 1,2,3,4

Now it's time for your slide. Using the same rhythm pattern with the addition of the slide at the 12th fret position, then on to the 10th fret position and so on. Like 12, 10, 9, 7, 5, 3, 0

g --o--o--o--o---12--o--o--o
D --o--x--o--x---o---x--o--x
G --x--o--x--o---x---o--x--o

Once you are comfortable working the slide up and down the neck trying sliding into each fret position

g --o--o--o--o--`12--o--o--o
D --o--x--o--x---o---x--o--x
G --x--o--x--o---x---o--x--o

Again all this can be done without a pick on either a neck through body or standard neck cigar box guitar.

If you have 4 strings just tune it to your favorite tuning. And you can use the top two strings for your base line.

Ok here is a video showing the thumb work on the upper two strings.

Tuned in EBE

And here is the pinching I was talking about

Also watch your fingers! I always hit my finger against the string and it buzzes!

This is good! Wish you could post a video!

Add videos!!! Can't believe I forgot all about this!

The x is where you pluck the string
so on the first bit your pluckin the sting closest to you and the middle string, in the tab below the x is where you pluck the 0 is a silent beat so basicly ignore the top string and alternate between the other 2.

g  --o--o--o--o       <Highest string (not being used)
D  --o--x--o--x      <Middle
G  --x--o--x--o     <This is the sting closest to you

Keep practicing that to a simple beat(find backin trax on youtube) then go on to next tab and add the highest string where thers an x in the line.

Got it?

Sorry guys but this is over my little head.  Can someone explain this tab process?  I really want to play more than chords...

Linda, the first part is played (plucked) with no strings fretted, all strings are "open". This may help in addition to the above.

By the way, Cool and simple Ara. thanks

I've got some more stuff tabbed out. I'll see about getting it up here before the weekend is over.
