The simplest little resonator instrument of all. Please add links to plans, photos of your canjos and ideas you've found that make the most of this diminutive instrument. (The image is a temporary placeholder, I'll replace it any day now!)

Comment by rusty case on April 26, 2013 at 10:37am The bowed Canjo Bass is excellent!
I shall build one. :-)
violin bows are auctioned on evilbay as little as $5-$7 including shipping from china. They are Usually NOT what a violinist would want to have for a quality performance, or even learning how to play the fiddle, but luck of the draw could possibly bring a reasonably decent bow in the mail. :-)
run a search for 4/4 violin bow, or, I might advise, 3/4 violin bow.
IME, it is a bit EZr to handle a 3/4 bow and they more frequently go for the lowest prices.
You Must have resin to use a bow!!! or it may just slide over the strings and make very little sound. $3 or $4 should get you a small cake of resin, or you could be down to earth and use a bit of pine tree sap that has dried up !
Jimmy Page used a bow on a couple songs, and many other innovative, and also traditional old country musicians used bowed instruments...
Have fun!

Comment by Old Fingers Green on April 25, 2013 at 2:31pm the big bass underneath your post has a home wound pickup mounted to the bottom of the can, the strings are mounted directly through the can so thats where most of the vibration is so i reckon it makes most sense.
Comment by smilingdog1 on April 21, 2013 at 2:14am Question of the day is pro and con of where to place an electric pickup?
What kind of jack and installation technique?
Finally what type pickup works for you best?
