Hey guys, Jaycar will be your friend when it comes to cbg's. Not only do they sell all the switches, jacks, speakers, wire and piezos you need, but they also sell amplifier kits. The best one I have found is the "Champ". It's the cheapest, easiest to build, and for its size, puts out a great sound. Brian, I don't know if what you got will work, but wire it up and give it a go, could be the next great pick-up.

The transducer i have is not like the Pietzo (Is that correct?) I got it in JayCar actually. Here is the URL for the picture. http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AU5550&keywords=ultra+sonic&form=KEYWORD. There is also a PDF (AU5550.pdf) on that site (I think) But i do not understand a thing about electronics. It was cheap so i bought it but I am not sure I have done the right thing.

I am beginning to think i should get the real thing off EBay.

Actually I am lucky enough to have a low end thicknesser. I also have a DIY sanding thicknesser that is ready to take up to my son (sorry!)

The DIY Is a wide cylinder with a rod through it and driven via a washing machine motor. It is covered in abrasive cloth. It adjusts Up and down rather crudely with wing nuts. It is clumsy but it works. I used to make Early Music Instruments and I sanded/thicknessed sound boards with it very successfully.

I have a small cylinder that I can put on my lathe and had a board that I cantilever up to get the thickness!

Hey Brian,
Red wire solder to outside lug on 1/4 inch jack socket and the black earth wire on the middle lug on the jack.
Mount the transducer under the bridge or near it if possible. A lot of builders carefully remove the transducer cover to expose the thin metal and ceramic plate. I have made a slight recess for the transducer just under the bridge so the noise from hand movement is minimised (but you could just experiment mate with sticky tape until you find your own "sweet spot"). I saw a picture of a heineken minikeg converted to a "kit" amp I thought it looked pretty cool on EBAY. Bass amps are great for CBGs I think for the mellower tone.

A return question about thicknessing the neck - how do you do that? I am using a belt sander in a vice currently (not great)

I went to Macron Music today (Erina/Tuggerah) they have two 9v battery operated amplifiers. One at $79 the other (two speakers in one box) at $90.
I am hoping my son will make me an amplifier, but these looked pretty good to me if he ever let me down.
Now would my son let me down? NO, but he takes his time. :(

Progress is that I have thicknessed my neck and marked out the length and shape. Then I started to ask myself questions about string length etc and sent a new discussion to the forum.

I also bought a Transducer from Jaycar. What do I do with it? OK... don't be rude!

That really sounds good. Thanks a lot.

I am in the phone book if you want to ring.

To Cam,
I got a piezo transducer as needed from Jaycar
(CAT. NO. AB3440 on their website) $3.95

To Brian Lemin,
I have a friend in Brisbane calling in this week to pick me up a couple of boxes from Paladar. He is going to courier them down to me.
As I have also just got 2 boxes off ebay, I should be-able to help you out with a box, Im in Newcastle, just up the road from you :)
I'll let you know when they arrive to see if any suit you.

Thanks for the Paladar information. I will ring them tomorrow... possibly ask my "Lota" son to call in.

If any of you guys are up Noosa way, search out Captain Tricko. A finer bloke you'll never meet, tell him Ray says Ahoy.
