Regarding school projects, I'm going to be visiting a class next year in Jan or Feb, comparable age students. I went a little simple. We're going to use shoe boxes with a hole cut in the lid with big rubber bands for the strings and two pencils for the nut and the bridge. So I would discuss with the students how a musical scale works and then show them how to change the pitch of their strings by dragging one of the pencils around. Then, I was thinking about making a little portable pickup out of a piezo and a mono jack that I could slip under one of the pencils on each student's box so they could hear it through an amp. In the mean time, I could show off some of my nicer guitars, etc.

Ted,

This could turn out to be a great rallying spot for all sorts of great CBG news. Thanks

This is just great. I volunteer once a week at a rural elementary school for a fourth grade class. I ran across CB Nation and thought it would be great to have a class project where every one can build their own CBG. So far I have been fortunate to have a local smoke shop donate 28 cigar boxes for this project. There are 22 students in the class but there is another 4th grade class that I might include (My girlfriend is the teacher for the first class). I'm thinking of having the students make a Diddley Bow but then started thinking that they could handle three strings also. Any thoughts out there on this? Being fourth graders, how much work should I do beforehand and what should I let the students do for themselves? I'm a visual artist, not a musician, although I have made a dulcimer from a kit and am trying to learn how to play it. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Bryan
