I got a silverware box from Goodwill for 50 cents because the young people running the store didn't know what it was. LOLI bought one awhile back and gave it to my wife to use as a jewelry box, but I…Continue

I like to take along a guitar when we travel, but I worry about banging up a full sized acoustic. After looking over the available Travel guitars, I decided to build my own.…Continue

This is the second CBG I've built. Used red oak from a big box store for the neck. (It's what I can find and afford). Wired in a humbucker and a parallel wired pair of piezo disks to aftermarket…Continue

Look's great Bob.
.....and my wife is all for my pursuit of building these instruments. it is a much less obnoxious hobby than some of the activities i have taken up over the years...i actually got the plate from the Goodwill, wasn't one of ours...HAHA.
i chose the silver plate because of the tone it makes when tapped. it has a nice, pleasant ring to it. the "lacework" around the edge of the plate are open, and allow some sound to come through. over-all, i think it sounds pretty good, played in standard form or with a slide....which is one of the reason i like these guitars, in the first place.
Does your wife know you used her silver candy dish for a cigar box guitar? :-)
hey. brand new to this forum....and building my own guitars. i just finished putting together my second CB-style guitar. the first one was REALLY rough, but gave me the inspiration to put a little more effort into a more serious instrument.
i hand-built the body and neck from various hardwoods i scrounged up from our local building recycle place, and found a few interesting parts at the Goodwill, to make this. i hand-fashioned the nut and bridge from the large marrow bones we give our dog...trust me, using a dremel tool to cut bone smells REALLY bad...haha
the details are; from nut to bridge 25", the walnut fretboard is 2" wide [my personal choice], the body is 3" deep, 14" long, and 10" wide. the front and back are maple plywood, and the sides are oak. the neck is made from ash, with an oak strip glued to it. the headstock is maple.
the pan is a silver serving tray, the tail piece is a chrome spatula, and the sound holes are covered with kitchen sink strainers....i did invest in real guitar tuners and strings. nobody is perfect. haha.
