Kevin - I would tune DA which is what I usually use on my 2 stringer

Hi All, I have strung my 2 stringer with  E & A strings from an electric guitar, could anyone please advise me as to the best string combination, and to what notes they should be tuned to. I have heard that some players have a particular string, but tune it to a different pitch. Any thoughts would be be most appreciated.

Hey Rick,  I like that deuce a  lot.  I care about a player and will take that and tradition most of the time too.  Paper board very often sounds great.

I was hoping to spend the day with the kids but they were mostly interested in coloring and TV, so I ran downstairs for an hour or so and threw together this 2-string cigar box. While true to the original concept of cbg, (more desire to play than money to buy), it is pretty much a POS compared to the workmanship, and time for that matter, that I see the people here exhibiting in their builds. 1" dowel, zither pins from busted autoharp, 2 screws for nut, tremolo claw from a junked electric for bridge, braided clothesline for strap, and the cigar box (though possibly 30 years old) is American paperboard. BUT it is fun, I am working on my 2-string chops, and appreciating the virtues of the round neck on a 2-string. I can easily play melody and thump the bass, or play a harmony pair depending on how I tilt my cut-off wine bottle neck. Tuned relative 1-5, or g-d.

just finished up another 2 stringer.  was a one stringer but tired of that quickly.  put on the biggest 2 strings off a broken garage sale guitar, tuned it EB. I like the sound of it.  with the piezo and my cheap battery amp cranked enough to get lots of distortion, it sounds real trashy.

I've got 36 and 26...tuned to anything from E,B to A,E....use what ever two you like depending on whether you like a deep low sound or a high sound. And you could tune them like the bottom two on a 3 stringer..or like the top two...or any thing else you fancy.  Experiment and see what you like : -)
