Chickenbone John sells fretboard blanks [6mm thick, 42mm wide, 520mm long] ready to glue on and to slot for fretting at a fair price:

If you have access to a bandsaw look for scrap pieces of furniture, table legs or the like...

Try your local model shop

Try this Google Search:

where to buy hardwood in the UK

Are you near any of these?
Will have a look thanks
Thanks will have a look

Is it for fretboard?

Not sure if it'll interest you but i just buy hardwood strip wood from Wickes. They don't specify the type of wood other than it's hardwood. You'll need to check it out for damage, i've seen some pretty bashed up. I also think it's 6mm depth but i've just been using that.

It comes in various widths and in 2400mm lengths for around a fiver.

I buy the 35mm stuff but i think you can get wider strips.

Thanks will have a look been to B&Q and Home Base but they didn't have any thing

B&Q and Homebase only stock the pine variety as far as i'm aware. But i think this place supplies most the big chains:

Wickes do sell the hardwood type but sometimes i have to order it - click and collect. It's cheap and it's fine for what i need it for but you don't have the option of choosing wood type.

B&Q do sell oak and hemlock square spindles which is also worth remembering when you can't find wood for a neck.

And in case you are interested - because i'm really awful at dressing fret ends, i order modelling strip wood from a company on the Isle of white, glue them to the sides of my fretboard to hide my poor workmanship. It works really well as binding and looks really neat.

I buy the 2x6x400 for ukuleles and email them for 500mm lengths to bind guitar fretboards.
