Hey everyone, I have not been on the forum for a while, but I am making a diddly bow for a friend of mine, I have all of the stuff, I have a single coil pickup and every thing I need to make one. I hooked everything up and I am getting this wicked humming buzz.....worse than I have ever had before. Anyone know why maybe this could be and how in the world I can get rid of it.....I have tried everything.....mind you I am using a mono 1/4 jack, but I have never had any trouble with those types before......please help....this project is driving me crazy!

Nothing....weird thing is.....it's doing it to all my stuff....for some reason my amp is going south on me....humming like crazy even into all of my other diddly bows......weird....
For the record.....it acts like it needs to be grounded.....I have tried grounding to other metal parts, but nothing....I have had this problem before but I have I can't remember how to fix it.
Permalink Reply by JUJU on February 2, 2012 at 7:35pm Sounds like you have the same problem i do ! - for some reason my Mains Electric supply humms like hell - when i first started making guitars i thought i had a problem with my guitar wiring mainly the ground but it all became apparent when i took my guitar and amp to a mates house and there was no humm at all - it has been said that it may be because not so far away from my house theres a Mobile/cell Phone mast - maybe it's your mains power supply and not your guitar or pickup - or maybe it's non of the above and its your amp - do you have another Amp to try
sorry but i cant offer anymore advice :(
hope you get it sorted

Permalink Reply by Bob Lumpkin on February 4, 2012 at 12:40am This must be going round, I think that's the name of a song. anyway, I've never had this problem before, but I've got a gawd awful buzz on my new 6 string build. Single coil bridge p.u., piezo inbedded under neck, LP type selector switch & single Vol & tone pots. 47 cap wired up like a LP special. Touch anything & hum got much worse. After taking most everything apart with no luck, I noticed I wired the output jack backwards. Problem solved!
Still have the single coil hum with the three I've tried so far. I'm going to try one of those Humbuckers that fit a single coil hole. Should take care of that minor problem. First time I've tried mixing magnetic & piezo pickups on the same insturment, but it seems to work.
Moral of story, look at everything VERY, VERY CAREFULLY before tearing stuff apart, saves extra work. I've found problems are mostly something simple like this or a bad component (rare, but a pain)
