Cigar Box Guitars: building tips, music and the cigar box culture

Picture the scene...

You are at a gig. The first set has been blinding. You are sweaty, grinning like a maniac and wondering if life will even be worth living after the show, because nothing will ever beat this. Period.

The 'band' retake the stage, the drummer and the bloke who hangs around with the band (the bass player) bring it back in with an infectious rolling rythm, the lead vocals requests you 'put your hands together' to welcome a 'very special guest', we are honoured to be joined by etc etc, and on walks the most unexpected guest you could have thought of. But theres more! He (or she, or it, or them) are packing CBGs!

Living or otherwise, for better or worse, or just for the sheer hell of it, who's it gonna be??

Lemmy from Motorhead maybe? Postman Pat perhaps? Gordon Ramsey playing a mandolin cbg?

I`d love to see and hear Rory Block playing a cbg, she is a wicked slide and blues player already, just needs a cbg shoved in her hand...

Oooooo that would not look pretty. Not to mention, smelly. Besides if she were alive, her boobs would get in the way of her playing (or was that the point?)

Roy Clark and Unknown Hinson. And I would resurrect Lightnin' Hopkins just to watch him play.

Billy Zoom - Johnny hit and run Pauline - nasty lyrics but probably one of my favourite rock n roll songs by feel. Double nickles on the dime - who put that one out? Some group from San Pedro in the early 80's - was D Boon involved. You are scratching my memory Brother Sonny, pretty soon i'll be going through the old vinyl again.
