Just purchased some strings and wondering which to use for my 3-stringer. Want to tune it in open G.

Got 2 sets:

Fender 150XL = .012 / .016 / .024 / .032 / .042 / .053

and

DÁddario EZ900= .010 / .014 / .022 / .030 / .040 / .050

Has anyone some experience witk these strings?

I like the heavier strings.  For open G5 you could take the A,D,G strings and tune the A down to G.

I'll throw in a qualifier that it sort of depends on the box, lid thickness, and how and what you want to play.  You may have to experiment a bit to see what sounds best for you.

I have been using the Fender 150XL.  They are ok, but a little noisy with the slide - Assuming a 24' to 26" scale, I use/ .024 / .032 / .042 / .

Tuned G D G - Two thinnest tuned as per standard tuning - fat string down 2 half steps from A to G.

Of course your mileage may vary

Honsik,

Try 'em both; use the middle strings from each set:

Fender 150 XL: .042 / .032 /.024

D'Addario EZ900: .040 / .030 / .022

Tune 'em G-D-g
