This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

My practice with the scroll saw continues. And i continue to suck at it. : ) Getting better. I did learn that if I use color ink it's easier to tell the line from any blade shadow. That has cured my sight problem. Now to continue to get better.

I know there's round blades that let you cut in every direction. But they also make a wider cut. What i'm doing is cutting through a picture so I want as thin a line as possible for the pickup rings.

Practice makes perfect. Also makes more scrap. Haha

The color lines is a great suggestion.

The round blades can also lead you off the path of the line quicker, so there's that. Some things seem to be a better idea, til they aren't.

Found a set of jig saw blades that clean cut through 1/2 with no chip out.

Bocsh T101BF 10 TPI clean cut for hardwood. I use T-shanks so that's probably were the 'T' comes from. Real smooth cut surface as well. I know they make some with more TPI but my local lumberyard didn't have them. These look to work just fine.

Hi, Blue Rat showed his modified bench light last week which has prompted me to show how I have gone about solving the same problem. My workshops are pretty dark even on a good day so I have to have lights on to even see properly during the day. My problem was that I did not want the main ceiling lights burning all day due to the mounting cost of power. This was my solution, put on a light as you need it.

I have ten different bench lights placed throughout the work area, some on benches and some over machines.

One way I mount them is to remove the bases and fit a 1/4" bolt protruding  out of the bottom, I then drilled 1/4" holes in various bench tops in place where I would need light, then its just a matter of picking up the light from one bench hole and placing it in a hole in a new location. Other lights have a factory clamp on them and are easy to reposition.

With other desk lights and industrial lights even stage lights, I have mounted on floor stands and others I have mounted on the boom arm of microphone stands and can swivel them across a number of machines.

In the photo of the machine workshop, if you look carefully, you will see five of the lights mounted in different ways. I did not go out and buy these lights but many were junk that I have repaired and redesigned.

  Cheers Taff

That's not a workshop,it's Aladdin's Cave !

Take care of that finger Paul. Lots of critters in lake water.

Awesome lighting Taff. Can never have to much light! I baffle mine with paper towels ( I use LED bulbs ) so I don't get hard shadows.

Clamps! and More clamps!!!!

These clamps were inspired by some I'd seen guitar makers use to clamp maple tops to guitar bodies. Mine are anywhere from 16 to 20 inches long. Made from 2x4s ripped in half. They'll have slots so I can position the 3/8 bolts where I need them. These clamp from both the top and bottom of the guitar and are meant to be ratcheted to tightness. A thin piece of wood (1/8 ) can be placed along the center of the guitar with these clamps going from the sides. This would will help put even pressure on the center. Instead of just having the full pressure on the sides. I'll use EVA foam on the center strip to keep from digging into the top

Next on the list is a jig to center guitar necks. Every pro guitar site I go to tells you to make all your jigs first. Then make more as you go. And you can never have to many clamps!

Hi Cause, here is a bad photo of what I use to line up necks/bridges. I put a template in the picture to make things show up better.

I  have just had a quick count of the clamps I have around the workplace........156 in all, plus 19 of those spring clamps and 50 or so little springs clamps I use for gluing Kerferd linings.

Don't worry I was surprised too. That would include "G" clamps, sash clamps, cam clamps, many spool clamps and many specialty clamps dedicated to a job or certain types instrument's.

here's my neck liner uperer. Or one could clamp the template to the neck and use it, I used to do it that way.

Cheers Taff

Nice Taffy.

I like the clear jigs for routing. I have found it useful to use colored pencils other than the usual graphite grey pencil sometimes. It depends on the color of the material your cutting.

They gave me a round of antibiotics and I cleaned it out good right away. I removed the stitches myself after 8 days. It's healed up good and the important part is no more damage to a well needed fretting finger.

Jigs make hard work easier. Takes awhile to get them just right and you have to check them periodically to make sure they're still accurate, but they sure make work easier. Never have too many clamps and the wood handle clamps tend to rust and the handles will strip out on you if you don't take care of them. Beware of real inexpensive tools, they're usually a waste of money.

Found a Alvarez Acoustic Guitar in a Fred's parking lot today that someone had broken into a lot of pieces.

I may be able to salvage the fretboard. The tuners and bridge are good. Might be able to get some usable pieces out of the top and back. Neck is toast, but the trussrod looks good.

I always get these little video how-to clips from Stewmac that are very helpful.

Taffy, nice looking jig.

Pau.,StewMac vids are always good to watch. Down to earth with good info. I've seen some real waked ones on youtube. Like the guy who claimed paint on an electric guitar destroys tone???? Really??? Love me a pink 1969 Fender but can't find wood that color. : )

Got to my local hardware store. Picked up one 72 inch 3/8 treaded rod and a hand full of washers and nuts for just above $9. This one rod will get me eleven 6 1/2 inch clamp bolts. Had I bought hex cap bolts it would have cost a small fortune. Plus I get the added bonus of the threads going all the way up. Making these clamps more versatile.
