I made a stupid mistake when making one of my cbg, I made the cbg backwards (I kicked myself for it), cut the wrong side so the logo is upside down.  It’s a all wood box with no stickers on it, the logo on top looks like it is printed on it or burnt on, it looks like it can be sanded off easily.

Here’s what I thought I could do with this cbg:

1. I could sell it for a left handed person or
2. I could paint the top of the box to cover the logo

Question is:  What kind of paint works best for a wood cigar box and do you think this is what I should do or keep it for a left hander?

I guess its all in how attached you are to the guitar  I just use a good quality spray paint  Rough up the box a bit & give it a spray  Or take the neck out & turn it around  These little mistakes are what makes for better future builds

Can you post a few pictures for us?

Just leave the way it is, with the logo upside down. Or, cut the other side and fab up a patch for the oops side. Or, make a new neck for a thru the box style.

I vote Lefty. Paint and clear coat can be funny on top of a cigar box. I have had it stick to the trim stickers and peel off the entire rest of the box. Could be a real mess if that happens to you.

And if you leave it upside down you could tell people you like the way it looks from your angle while playing it.

Thanks for the reply.  I thought of making a thru box style but I would like to keep all my designs "styles" the same.

I found this guy paints on his and they look amazing:

Leave it backwards, tell people who ask that you did it that way so you can read the logo, its all about you the musician and not the audience, they will believe that.

Good answer!

Or tell them sometimes you play standing on your head at gigs. You didn't feel like it tonight, but they should check out your next show in case you do it then :)

When I paint a trim on my CBGs, I buy little bottles of acrylics from hobby stores, like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or JoAnnes.  Then I laquer over the top of the paint.  Works very well.

Josh,

That's not a bug, that's a feature, dahlink! Logo upside down is:

A) so you can read it while you play
B) to promote audience curiosity about your CBG
C) to impress the girls
D) to confound the naysayers
E) to make the left handlers drool, especially when you tell them you can play it "backwards"
F) all of the above.

I love all these....lol

I might keep it the way it is.

I'll post pictures when I get home.

Do what ever you like you can sand it off  and use walnut oil alone. if you clear coat a body use a light coat of lacquer, Don't ever use water base polyurethane for anything.
