Pinky finger: my fave, a tapered Dunlop brass.    Ring Finger, 1B.  A ceramic by Dave Lynas -which I like better on some songs.   Badfinger a bottle neck from my friend, the Maddog.     Pointer finger, a big socket HEAVY!    Thumb- I really like a shot glass for a lap diddley.

Nice slides and info, Marko.  You make some nice bottlenecks.

For electric I use a cut off wine bottle and for acoustic brass all the way.

Hi, seems I use same as most others as in slides and tone bars. I'm not too picky about the materials but more about the feel, fit and weight. I did have some bottle neck slides but gave them away with recent CBG's.

The brass one pictured [in the cigar box slide storage box] is one I made for myself about 6-7 years ago. I used a length of solid brass rod and drilled in from both ends with suitable size drills to get a tapered fit for the finger on the inside and straight sides on the outside.

For playing in the band at that time it was way too heavy on my pinky and was causing tendon issues. To get over this I drilled holes all over the slide [except the playing side] even down the ends, to lighten it. this is my favourite. And if it rolls off the table it does not smash into pieces.

Cheers Taff

Taffy that is a nice presentation and narrative.   I do like that holey brass slide!  This music playing thing can be tough on the hands.

Brass n Bone...so far my favorite

That's good news to me since I have a brass and bone slide ordered from you!!!

Ebony knife slide far left, electric slide in the back [ piezo disc embedded into the bone - 1/4" input on top].  Plus a few others that I have in stock.

Dunlop 215 glass is my favorite, always have 2 or 3 around, to account for potential drops.
Dunlop 232 tapered brass is go-to second choice.
19mm Craftsman deep socket is good, too.
Stevens tone bar for lap steel.
Don't like copper pipe slides. I think the pipe is too soft.

Usually 6 or 7 available around the shop.

Grandpa!   You make me want more slides!   :)

What is your favorite slide? Antique blue Brom-seltzer bottle, early 1900s.
How many do you have? ~25
What slide material do you favor? Glass
What material do you not like so much? Play doh
Do you have in slide technique advice? Lots of great info posted already, for the slow stuff start a fret or two above or below and briefly pause on the note before the vibrato.

Hey Uncle John - as you can see from my photo you hit on one of my obsessions, antique medicine bottles. In my wanderings with the wife through antique stores all over the Pacific Northwest looking for cool hardware or boxes that could be turned into a CBG I found these little old bottles could be repurposed as well.
Note of caution: Make sure that the bottle is empty, some unknown substances may have an effect on you. I learned this once after a 12' banana chased me down the street and made me strip and jump in the river, plus everything tasted like an 9V battery for a week. Although I still think I fit there pretty well the authorities asked that I not to come back to Eugene for a few years, but it's all good now.
Anyways, hopefully this will help others, jamming your fingers into little bottle in antique stores is a great way to start conversations with random strangers about CBGs or mental health or they completely avoid you, either way, life's great.

LOL about the antique stores. Too bad about that overly aggressive banana.    Nice collection of slides.    The med bottles are cool.  This is kind of stupid, but I find they make my finger sweat.  .

My favorite is the stubby polished cooper. I also use a glass medicine bottle circa 1924 which I got at a rummage sale for $.25 .  I have skinny fingers so I use self adhesive Velcro strips to size my slides
