Let's do a little chicken pickin' today with my favorite hoedown lick. In this lesson, I break it down into an exercise that will build up your picking and Stubby Slide chops. Start slow and build up speed over time.
This is an excellent lesson for a slide-lick that, while simple in appearance, takes a bit to get the hang of. And frankly, I don't actually have the hang of it (only a light grasp, at best).
I appreciate the care that went into slowly demonstrating the roles both the slide and picking hands play. Rather than tackle a whole song or drawn-out riff, this lesson focuses on one small lick; the practice for which has positive results: it forces me to start small and focus on technique. As someone who cannot rely on talent, the basic, methodic practice promoted in this video helps me improve my slide-play and overall view of how to learn new stuff.
Shane, Thank you for your lessons. I keep trying because you make it look so easy. My practicing is so bad my dog wants me to quit.
