Hello again.... well here's a huge surprise....I ent to test fit the sealed tuners I got from CB Gitty and they don't seem to be long enough to go through the head stock { 1.5 inches thick } and have the other piece thread in.   !!  ???   Is there different lengths of the tuners?  Is there a fix for this? I'm thinking short of sanding the head stock down .....I would think considerably....I dont see what there is to do. I got two of the tuners to fit with a lot of work but the 3rd and final one does not want to connect together. ..... and I bought 2 sets..... right handed set and a left handed set.     again....any help would be appreciated for sure.

thanks for the reply...... I made a HUGE mistake in the info I told you and others though. The head stock ISN'T 1.5 " thick !!!!!!!!   It's really 3/4 of an inch !!!!   What was I thinking???   Maybe a sander will do the job..... I got 2 out of the 3 tunners on but the 3rd one just won't go.

I use the Gitty economy open-back tuners, but most of them like around 5/8" thick headstock. I do scarf joints and trim the cutoff down to about 5/8", then sand to finish. I did one flat headstock, same thickness. Just like the scarfs better...:-)

thanks... yours looks great !! s you might have read, I made a mistake in the actual thickness of the head. It's only 3/4" thick and I managed to get 2 out of 3 tuners installed. So I'm close !!! I'll get at er tomorrow and remove the tuners I have installed and then sand the heck out of the head stock.   Wish me good luck friends...... and thanks again for everyones thoughts on my problem.

I thin out all of my headstocks to what my eyes tell me is a good match for the particular tuner I'm using.

Bandsaws Rule!

Thanks JL.... I'll be sanding down the head and all will be good. The stock is 3/4"thick and not the ridiculous 1.5" I mentioned in my orig. post.

Yes, bandsaws most certainly do rule!
