Had a massive pain shoot down my neck and left arm yesterday. It literally put me on the ground. After an agonizing trip to the local urgent care, turns out I have a pinched nerve. Can barely even type let alone play or build.

On top of that, I'm suppose to deliver a build tomorrow (where I was going to play a bit as well) and one of the local papers called yesterday wanting to do piece about me. Go figure.

I'm not much with writing lyrics but this may be the week that I start. The meds take the sting away but they leave me pretty listless. I may have the lowest tolerence of any human on the planet when it comes to pills.

Anyway, I'm sidelined for a while. Looking forward to viewing videos and pics more than ever the next few days.

Hope things improve for you.

I have the misfortune of knowing what that's like...

I feel your pain.  I'm not a Doc, I don't play one  on the interneters and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn last night.  Find McKenzie certified therapist.  This might be in the same office as a Physical Therapist or Chiropractor, but make sure you search out a McKenzie certified person.  http://www.mckenziemdt.org/method.cfm  You can search for one near you at that link.  This isn't any new age holistic burning hemp and patchouli crap.  Not that there is anything wrong with that fru-fru stuff.

6 years ago I blew out a disc in my lower back that gave me similar pain to what you described.  I grew up on a farm and I'm used to some amount of daily pain, but I almost passed out from this one at its worst.  My wife's step-father is a McKenzie certified and I was back up an walking the next day.  Still in pain, but completely managable with over-the-coutner stuff like Aleve.  2 years ago I built a 24'x32' pole barn largely by myself and I don't take any meds, never had any surgery or injections and I'm pain free today.  Do some simple strength building exercises and you'll be back in business.

Might not help you write any lyrics, but will make you feel more pleasant.  Hope it helps.

Dayum I keep hitting the wrong button.

thanks for the info.

SlowHound,

This happens to me for about two weeks to one month nearly every 4-5 years since I started playing guitar 35 years ago. In my case, it's a combination of bad posture, incorrect technique, sitting at a non-ergonomic computer station for my day job, overplaying, too much belly fat, and not enough exercise. It also goes away on its own after about a month, when I remember to change something (usually my posture), with daily doses of ibuprofen.

Couldn't hurt to check out Eric's link, either.

I am not a Doctor, have stayed at a Holiday Inn, and can impersonate ethnic minorities, like Scotsmen and Yankees. I have not received anything gratuitous for this late night infomercial.

Damn.

Sorry to hear about your problem Slowhound, not sure of your age but seems you might be entering "the late zone" i.e. post 50 - the aches and pains from life's little (and big) knocks and twists kick in but we learn to grin and bear it and carry on, and show the whippersnappers we can still hack it...we're always smilin' through the pain, he he...! (-;

...seriously, i took up guitar late in life but accept the drawbacks of sore fretting wrist and repetative strain syndrome (stop sniggering at the back there!),  and the week long aches resulting from knocks, cuts and solder burns from clumsily wielded hand tools...in short, welcome to the club - though your current affliction is an extreme one...owch! )-: - in the meantime try and endure your layoff in a positive way and see if i can't put a little of my own "medicine" your way this weekend...keep watching the vids and hope you're back in action soon! (-:

I tried this after reading on Yahoo, and it works a little  [but not like the vicodin].

 * lace fingers behind neck;

 * tip head backwards

 * squeeze shoulder blades together

repeat 10 times

I was seeing chiropractor on advice of the Doctor,

all he did was use a thumping device on the back of my neck because he was afraid he'd stroke me out by dislodging plaque deposits in my carotid artery.  Ice packs and stimulant vibrations also were prescribed but the bottom line is I'm getting old and worn out.

Now I m on the dole again, got canned this afternoon, and I won't be able to afford the treatments (they should have name the health insurance program Python, Cobras kill you too quickly, pythons are nice and slow about it).  Just wish the manager could feel the pain for a change...

Tom
