Looking for ideas for a tail piece or suggestions on what to use instead of a tail piece to hold the strings on. New to this

Anything with holes in it that a string ball end won't pass through.
probably my fav, easiest.. a bit of trimming off the neck, effectively the bit that would stick thru lopped off, turned on its side and screwed thru the box side and into the neck's end
this one here is a scrap of sheet steel wrapped in leather, the steel is necessary to ground the strings
this is an old one that I did in only a couple hours,used a bit off an old boot that was lying around
be original mate, theres more stuff around that can be a tailpiece than there is stuff than cannot. enjoy

Permalink Reply by Suspect Device on June 27, 2012 at 10:47pm The blades from a metal vegetable steamer work pretty well as trapeze-y-like tailpieces, especially for 4-strings. Just screw it on and string it up. Plus, you get something like 18 of them out of one vegetable steamer.
