My last git had two sound holes on the front of the box but for my new one i want to put image on the box and no matter what way i put soundholes on the front counting the bridge pickup and holes its guna cover up too much of my image!

i have seen the soundholes on some gits not on the front of box but on the side mainly the side that points to your face! if i did it like that id have more room for image on front of box.

my question is will it take away from the sound acustically from the git?

any help appreciated in advance!

so you recon it wont sound right unless i get sound facing audience as you discribe? is it much of a difference like would it be fine for playing at home myself?

With all due respect to Wayfinder's most creative suggestions, I don't think putting the sound hole on top would compromise the sound. In fact, if the hole were facing you, it might give you a more honest representation of what's coming out. I'm always surprised to hear my CBGs played by other people, because when I stand in front of the guitar it sounds much louder and clearer than when I'm behind it (playing it myself).

There are a couple of ukes on the market (Riptide, et. al.) that have the sound hole on, top and they sound pretty good. As with all CBG tinkering, good luck and please post a video of the finished product!

thanks will do, would love to hear sound sample for both and see the difference!

Here's one I made using 2 old draw pulls as "sound diverters", can't really tell you if it worked a lot better for the audience,  but they looked cool.

looks pretty cool also like the bridge!

Thumper, I do love this one. The whole theme of the thing is rogue.Way yonder cool!

Iv noticed Swampwitch CBGs they don't have sound holes but they sound pretty amazing?

most  swamp witch guitars actually  have a sound    hole  .  only  a  few  do  not    if  it  impedes  the  artwork   design  ,,  but  then  i   leave a  bit  of  space around the  pup  .

they are  "semi"  hollow .  really  only  the   neck  divides   the  hollow   body .

mind  you  ..   " sound   holes"    are  mostly  for  "acoustic"  guits  and sound ,   and    sws are really  an " electric  guitar "  .  but  the    hollowness does   migrate  to  the  pups    in  hollow  bods  somewhat.

Put one hole the size of a U.S. quarter in the side facing the player. If you feel the need to install a "port," an appropriately sized brass grommet will do the trick.
I am so new to this so take my observation with a grain of salt. I have only built one so far and the holes are on the side and face up towards the player. I have attached a picture. I noticed that the sound is slightly louder when holding traditionally than if flat on my lap. I covered the holes with my hand to see and it made it slightly quiter. Not a lot, just slightly. Though I do find it plenty loud if sitting as an observer watching my daughter play it so not sure how much louder it would have been if the holes were in the front.

Just my observations and again I have as close to zero experience as you can get without it being zero so, grain of salt....

thanks man, ya something like your pic was what i had on mind! thanks for info on how it sounds!

Some of my best ones have no sound hole at all, don't be afraid to just skip it. There's 100 little things you do that make your guitar, this is just one of em..
