so i came up with this crazy idea. what about making a "self amped' cbg. My idea was taking a small box, maybe a little bit larger than an altoids box, and turning it into an amp. mount the box/amp on the box and wire it so that when you want it amped, you just have to flip a switch. no plugging in or anything, just flipping a switch. if you understand what I am saying, would that be even possible?
Yeah, it would be pretty cool! Put a small speaker for a sound hole. I've seen it done on a solid body electric too. It's pretty neat.
It is possible - there is a recent thread here http://www.cigarboxnation.com/forum/topics/amp-in-guitar-body
That is sick! I am going to college in august. I plan on making one more nice acoustic with a punch box then I want to make one of these so I don't have to haul a amp around with me!
If you do decide to do a battery-powered amp inside the box, give some thought to leaving it accessible from the back for batt replacement. You don't wanna have to make it difficult to replace a battery. You can also get battery holder boxes from GuitarFuel.com for around $7.50, that allow you to access the batt from a flush mount holder that extends inside the box; I'm gonna install one on the Busker, which currently requires I unscrew about 8 screws to open the box to replace the batt.
