Is it possible to play this song in Am on a 3 or 4 string CBG?

Verse: Am Em Am F Em Am
Am Em Am F Em Am
Chorus: C Am C Esus4 E7
Am Em Am F Em Am

Yes.

Minor chords (Am) are root - flat third (three halftones) - fifth (seven halftones)

Major chords (F) are root - sharp third (four halftones) - fifth (seven halftones)

Suspended (Esus4) chords are root - fourth (five halftones) - fifth (seven halftones)

Minor seventh chords (E7) are root - flat third (three halftones) - fifth (seven halftones) - flat seventh (ten halftones); for three strings, omit the fifth, the third, or the root

The A minor scale is a ++ b + c ++ d ++ e + f ++ g ++ a, where ++ means two halftones, and + one halftone

Take a 15" strip of paper, draw three or four strings on it, draw the frets, and mark the notes on each string: you should now see how to play the chords

E7 is root, major 3rd, 5th, minor 7th,

Em7 is root minor 3rd, 5th, minor 7th,

and I'd guess is supposed to be an Em7 chord, the listed chords appear to be in the key of C

C Dm Em F G Am Bdim C

I guessed the same, I'm only used to another convention: seventh chords are minor, otherwise you mark them «maj», and this convention seems to be used in the chord sheet above. Key seems to me rather A minor, true, with the same chords as C major.

E7 and Em7 are two different chords.

besides there is no Em7 in the chord progression in the original post.

Who said they are the same chords? There are just two conventions for seventh chords, to mark the minors (Em7) or to mark the majors (Emaj7). In the first case E7 is major, in the second E7 is minor. The chord sheet above seems to follow the second convention.

you did. and in guitar E7 is what you call Emaj7  ie all chords are major unless specified otherwise . been this way for the 42 years i have been playing guitar.

I guessed the same as JL, that in the above chord sheet E7 is referring to a minor seventh chord. which is just another convention.

i give up. you cant be wrong.

you are confusing that the 7th is always a minor 7th unless otherwise noted. E7 is an Emajor chord with a minor 7th added, Em7 is an Eminor chord with a minor 7th added, E7M is an Emajor chord with a major 7th added, Em7M is an Eminor chord with a major 7th added.

Another approach:

Dustin , to answer your original question  the easiest way to play this would be on a 4 string tuned to EADG.
