Hi all,

just looking for a quick survey on what kinds of effects pedals some of you might use. I currently play through a cigarbox amp with guitarfuel innards and while it has pretty nice distortion and overdrive, I think a pedal would be more versatile, also some reverb would be nice...what else?

Just started using a volume pedal this week. The onboard amp effects I use are tremelo, reverb, delay and sometimes chorus.

I use a Digitech RP155. For $100 you get a multi-effect processor that gives you 83 amps, cabinets, stompboxes, and effects allowing you to get virtually any sound you want. With USB streaming audio, the RP155 allows you to easily record directly to your computer's DAW as well as use analog output or a room microphone.

I have posted on the CBN Homepage player 'Plastic People" as well as on my Deltaglowboy profile page. The RP155 was the only effects box used ....

Good Luck with your search, there is a lot of good stuff out there but remember they also depend on a decent sound coming out of you CBG to start with ......... play on.

  1. Overdrive
  2. Chorus
  3. Slap Echo
  4. Reverb
  5. Flange
  • and, to a much lesser extent, Tremelo and Uni-Vibe

may i suggest a wah pedal?

 ᶘ ᵒᴥᵒᶅ You may!!!

I recently got a "Swollen Pickle" jumbo fuzz box from "Way Huge Electronics" from Guitar Center.

I am playing it through a cigar box amp I got from Gitty here on the forum.

It is indeed way huge - me likey.

It coast twice as much as the amp, but is worth it IMHO.

Now I'm thinking I'll try to make it look a bit more cigar boxy somehow.

Well, the Swollen Pickle is just a Big Muff, There are plenty of "cigar boxy" looking Muffs out there. I could even build one for you in a small cigar box if you'd like. I can draw a Big Muff schematic from memory.

do it do it haha

They all have their place..

But a real good amp...
Is worth 10,000 pedals imho

I'd also much prefer a pedal that does one thing really well to one that does a thousand..

That said, I'm real partial to a nice digital delay, and any kinda lo-fi filters, synths filters, oscillators etc cal be real cool..

I often use

  • Electro Harmonix Dr Q Nano (envelope filter - must be placed before compression)
  • Big Crush Compressor (quite useful for selfmade instruments, evens the sound a bit and adds sustain)
  • Danelectro Transparent Overdrive (adds some sparkling crunch)
  • Behringer Ultra Tremolo (very cheap pedal, plastic housing only but it has exactly the sound I want)
  • Danelectro Wasabi Delay (very versatile pedal, tap tempo and reverse delays included)
  • Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb pedal (my amp has no reverb)

This setup works well with coil pickups. For acoustic sounds (piezo pickups) I have a zoom A1 pedal (quite cheap and good for acoustic sounds).

For small gigs I use a zoom 2.1u multi effect processor or a 1980s Ibanez pue5 analogue multi effect pedal with tube preamp. Or just an Electro Harmonix Nano Muff in front of an old transistor amp.
