As a proud new owner of a CBG, I was wondering what overdrive and reverb pedals people use? I currently have the CBG going into a MarkBass 1x8 combo with a mower shim verb pedal. Not happy with the reverb, think I want a more earthy sound. Looking forward to hearing what other people use :-)

For the overdrive pedal I use a Marshall BB2 Bluesbreaker pedal. It gives you the option of adding a very bluesy option as in the original BB1as well as having a boost mode. Can't recommend it enough. For reverb I don't have a dedicated pedal but my Line 6 Micro Spider does have reverb on it and it's about the only effect I use on the amp.

Best of fortunes finding what you're looking for. If at all physically possible I'd suggest a trip to a music shop and try several out while you're there. Buying off the Internet really doesn't work for me and I've always found music shops only too happy to try and take my money off me lol.

For the price of two pedals you could buy yourself a decent amp with reverb band a variety of overdrive sounds.

TC electronics Hall of Fame has a wide variety of verbs to choose from.

As far as overdrives go that's something of taste. Best bet is to go try as many as you can get your CBG plugged into. I'm a bit of a distortion/overdrive/fuzz fanatic. The only advice I can give is don't fall for the 'one sound wonder' pedals. Not to be confused with the 'amp simulators'.  Most of the amp simulators will never make your small solid state amp sound exactly like a 8/12 100 w Marshal stack. But most have great dirt. The smooth or choppy sound of the distortion. The dirt of the amp they're trying to simulate is what's most important. And the good ones deliver. Two i really like are Catalindread's 'Dirty Little Secret' and Wampler's "Tween' 57". Their dirt sounds good though any size amp I've played them through.  There's always the Ibanez "Tube Screamer". This old workhorse has been popular of a few decades now. With good reason. Remember. A good distortion will give you a great overdrive sound when you turn your pickup volume knob down. So remember to try that when your trying them out.

Tip from a dirt junky. Never play rhythm guitar with your distortion all the way up. With rhythm less is more. You'll have clarity and a sound people will think is high end.
