Starting my next guitar.  Will use the pickup I just made in this one.

I think the box is really nice....

I successfully peeled the inside paper off the lid.  Guess what's going on the headstock...

Oak fret board in the works...

Thinking of using some spent brass 22 casings for fret markers on the side of the neck.  If not these, then BBs again.

Hmmm... Me thinks this is an awesome box.... and my next guitar after the La Aroma De Cuba...

Thanks for looking.

I like the idea of the 22 casings.  Those are some nice boxes.  I looked at one of the yellow ones at my local smoke shop the other day but I was afraid it was too thin.

Thanks.  Yes.... I've got concerns about the thickness of the yellow box too.  But I checked and the box is 1.5 inches tall... so I should be able to double up the neck before going into the box... and just trim the thickness of the top and the thickness of the bottom.... With proper bracing I figure it should be good.  If not, I'll let you know not to waste your cash on the same box... LOL...

I just finished an oak fret board the other day.  I kinda wish I had filled the open grain of the wood prior to fretting it.  I saw a nice video on using drywall mud with stain in it to fill the grain and add some dark highlights to the wood.  I would have never though of using drywall mud for that purpose.

I had the same thought when I made an oak fretboard Dan. I don't really notice it when I'm playing, I think it's a lot more important to grain fill the back of the neck.

Do you think the vegetable starches used in standard drywall compound could adversely affect the longevity of the fill?

I have used stained Plaster of Paris as a grain filler on furniture projects but haven't found it necessary on any CBG builds yet.

After cutting my frets in, I sanded the whole fret board smooth.  after completing the frets, I will stain/sand/seal/sand/seal...  I found that with sanding and sealing, it usually comes out pretty darn smooth.  Maybe not perfect, but still good.

Beautiful box!
Can't wait to see it finished!

Looking good Eric! Both great boxes.

Good job on salvaging the inside label! :)

Already done... 2nd picture is of the inside label. Came off 99%... 1 spot tore, but it's far enough away from the image to not be an issue.

Did you remove the inner label to improve the sound? Or simply to use on the headstock? (Which is a great idea, BTW).

Removed in one piece to use on the headstock...

Removed to improve glue adhesion...

Does it improve sound?  I don't know...  If it does... then BONUS...  :)

Thanks!
