Hi everyone, I come to this wonderful CBG community indirectly - I got my kids a very nice loog guitar (www.loogguitars.com) and we are all hooked. I suppose you've heard about it, but just in case, it is a 3 string guitar for kids with nylon strings - it's Loog I version is even an hommage to the CBG. I am talking about the acoustig, not the electric model.

Now, playing it for me is a bit tough - while I am intimidated by a normal guitar's huge neck, the loog's is really small - ideal for kids, but hard for adult sized hands. I would really like to have an "adult" sized loog, as close as I can get it to my kids' so we can practice together doing exactly the same - i.e., same tuning, same nylon strings, with frets, chromatic and not diatonic, etc. - just a tad bigger. I've looked around, and I cannot find an alternative - ukuleles have 4 strings, strumsticks are diatonic and have steel strings, I don't know about its tuning but the cuban tres has "double" strings...

CBGs are as close as I can get to this, I guess, with 3 strings, but they have steel strings and the nice kits I saw on amazon are fretless. I am not very good with DIY but I guess I can assemble one of these kits. Are there any ready made/industrial 3 string guitars? Any recommendation? An option would be having one custom made based, say, on a baritone ukulele, although that would probably be too expensive.

Thanks!

Interesting, as I just bought a Loog electric. And I have purchased several very nice CBGs from other builders here. Easiest is to purchase a simple 3-string fretted CBG, or a CB baritone Uke. Lots of people here make 'em, for quite reasonable prices, some even in the neighborhood of what you paid for your Loog.

Wayfinder has given you several good options. It's all about the tuning and chromatic scale.

If you feel emboldened to try a kit, C.B. Gitty ( links at top and right of each page here at CBN) has both fretted and unfretted versions for decent prices. You can talk directly to Ben Baker (Gitty hisself) or Glenn Watt, here on CBN, for further info.
hi! thanks for your friendly and constructive replies, that's exactly what I expected from previous discussions in this forum.
I may go the kit route if the Gitty allows nylon strings, or may be get a baritone uke and re-string/tune it. SmokeyMountain just replied to my queries and they can make their strum stick with chromatic frets. Now it seems I have too many options!
just an ignorant's question: it seems to me that a baritone uke will sounf louder than a (non electric) CBG, because of the size of the body. am I right?
thanks again!
Ps very nice Eastern son uke!

I think I will go the Baritone Uke route. Again, very new bie questions - to "match" a Loog,

1-Do I need to re-string the uke, or just retune the included strings?

2-Is it a problem if the loog and the uke don't have the exact same number of frets?

Thanks again!
