Looking forward to being able to send messages. Post pictures! Join chat! and all the other things that don't work on this ancient stone tablet of a computer. I might add this ancient computer still works flawlessly. Just to old to update anything anymore.

Finally joining the 21st century, welcome.

+ comes with garage band

Yes Kid, comes with garage band. But I got Logic Pro X too!!!! I'm like a kid waiting for Santa right now.

Yep Gary. Looking forward to all the things ya'll have been able to do on this site.

Actually the difference between a PC and a Mac. I have an 8 year old computer that gets used on average 5 hours a day. On line for most of that. Still runs perfectly and is virus free. Don't think I had a PC for more than five years without having problems. Or gong down from a virus. Yes a mac is harder to learn. There is forums and help sites on line. But most of those places are occupied by some of the worst scum on earth. Good luck getting answers. Do have to add that I haven't been on any of those help sites and forums for years now. Hopefully things have changed for the better.

Wayfinder, you can configure your iMac to have both a left and right mouse button. I've got a windows mouse on my computer now. Right button works but don't use it.

another difference: a mac owner, if he is so inclined, can set his machine up to dual boot with Windows.

PS I have several 2002 G4 powermacs which still work perfectly too.  I disagree 100% about 'more difficult to learn', many many things are more intuitive in OS X than any iteration of Windows.   But these gaps close all the time, this is like a pointless stupid droid vs iOs debate, they copy and imitate each other in updates, of course they do.   Its a tool you use to get a job done, not a lifestyle nor something to bother being passionate enough to be a hater.

OsX does support flash, of course it does (its flash plugin is from Adobe themselves), its just iOs which doesn't.   This is because html5 made Adobe Flash pretty much redundant and Steve Jobs was among the first to see that.  He received a lot of criticism for that, and probably lost some business to Samsung etc in the mobile market, but what do you know, Adobe has recently dropped Flash, so it turns out he was 100% right.

no it is exactly as I said it is, HTML5 does everything we used to need it for, and with less bandwidth and better security, particularly for server side applications.

Did Apple accelerate HTML5 deployment across the web by refusing to support flash on iOs and thus cause this to come about sooner than it otherwise might have? perhaps.  If so then great job Apple, Adobe ought thank them for the millions they've saved beating a dead horse for a couple more years.

Kid, the problem I had was trying to quickly learn the difference in spread sheets between PC and Mac. I got no help at all. Ended up getting 'Open Office' for my mac. It has the same makeup as Micro's 'Office'. It took a wile for me to find out that you can customize a mac. Add all kinds of cool free programs to it. I still use Quicksilver daily. Love not having to use a mouse. As far as installing windows I have 'boot camp' too. But have no desire to have windows in a computer that would be connected to the web.

As far as the battle between the two worlds I side with reliability. If windows were serious about it they'd close all the gaps that allow viruses to wipe out their computers.

Wayfinder, it was Window's Vista that lead me to get an iMac. It took three swings with an axe to get from the top of the tower containing vista to the ground beneath it. I have pictures somewhere of the aftermath. I'm not the only one I know of who physically destroyed a computer containing vista. It was a nightmare. Mac has also put out their buggy stuff as well. Final Cut Pro X sent shock waves of horror thew the professional video editing world. It's been out for almost a year now and Mac is still fixing problems.

Oh man if you wanna bitch about Apple screwing something up look no further than logic audio, when they acquired Emagic it was the bomb.
I have used macs since March 1984, one month after they came out and I am an admitted fan. Bigest plus to me being long life of each system.

My big temptation is to say easy to use and lasts a long time. But I do cross platform database work and have watched people try to switch from one system to the other. What is easy for me is back asswards to them and really frustrating. I have come to the conclusion that the bestest system is the one that works for you.

That being said, I hope you really really enjoy your new iMac. I am jealouse. My current machine is five years old now.

Wayfinder. Here's the vid I saw on Final Cut Pro X. I was deciding if I wanted this program. Kind of an expensive toy. Really don't need anything more than iMovie.

Or you probably mean a vid of me taking an axe to a windows computer. Only have pics of the aftermath. It felt SO GOOD. : )

Kid, I imagine mac has had a few more bombs than that.

David, I was learning how to put together relational databases when XP died on me. Tried continuing on Vista. The horror. It would go as far as forgetting the key. Or claiming I didn't have one. Vista was a 4 year old angry child that did not want to do anything but cry and pout. it was as stable as a bipolar megalomaniac. Honestly was learning databases for fun. Didn't really have a need for it. After going to apple I never picked it back up. Perhaps the internet gods will be kinder to you. Not make so many updates they leave you behind in a few years.

The "Mac tax" has gone down. If you configure Mac and PC with comparative quality hardware, the costs are not much different. In the PC world you have a lot of choice from a Yugo to a Benz. In the Mac world, everything is a Volvo .... Kinda Sorta

Apple and Microsoft are fundamentally different companies.  There is no comparison.  Apple sell you computer which is installed with their own operating system (which btw is built on Darwin, and is therefore a BSD Unix variant and also is what is running on your iPad)  Microsoft software is sold to you on a computer which was made by some third party.  (They do operate they way Apple does in the video games market, and in the phones market now that they have acquired Nokia)

You arguments disparately target Apple's hardware (price) and their operating system (versatility).  Cause has purchased a unit of their hardware.  Microsoft do not to my knowledge offer any competing product, not for a quarter the price or for double the price.  As I said already any Macintosh since their move to intel chipset (2007?) will happily boot Windows.  Or Red Hat/Ubuntu/BlueDog/whatHaveYou.  So where exactly is this failure in versatility?  I would be amazed if a US$619 Mac Mini would not run whatever it is you need.

OsX updates are free, not $30.  Apple wants you running the latest version.  They profit on customer satisfaction and long term relationships.  They're smart.   So are their users.
