Hi, just a thought, but from 30g to 9g is a big gap, I would think a 16g first string might give a better sound balance and feel.

You could use a set of gas cutting tip cleaners, I've never used them but heard that they work, if not ideal. You only need to go a little over half the string diameter deep.

cheers Taff

thank bro

you could start with the cheap detail files you already have, (or pick up for $5 at HF or Walmart) and use the triangle one first and a bit of folded in half sandpaper to dress the bottom when done.

or for less than $30 Amazon has some kits with 3 double sided files (6 slot widths) with a few other useful bits and a case.

thank

Hi Grandpa i take you're suggestion and i make another top for my cigar box guitar but i have an question about vibration for my top did i need to let space between top and the neck who are in my cigar box because now my neck touch on the top or that make no difference for the acoustic sound thank

Hi, the small amount of fingerboard on the top will not dampen the top. The area that vibrates the most is around the bridge. The ideal if looking for good acoustic quality and response is have as much of the top vibrating as possible.

So............anything fitted to the top, like pickups, soundhole covers, and embellishments will contribute to the dampening effect. Even that hardtail bridge. But this guitar looks like being more electric than acoustic, so not a worry.

its hard to get the best of both worlds with such a small box, as CBG's normally are.

But having said all that I have found you will get an acoustic sound but possibly not as good as a box designed specifically as an acoustic.

cheers Taff

I have heard tell of another interesting way to file the slots for the strings on the nut. Use an old piece of guitar string (only works on the wrapped strings) and use it like a hack saw to grind down the nut slots. It will be a perfect match to the string.

Yes that does work Brendan, but takes forever in a bone nut. This works best to radius the bottom of the slot after is has be cut with a saw. Also holding the string in the fingers causes a rocking motion over the nut, so slot may not be as level as it should.

Posted a couple of pic's to show my experiment.....too time consuming for me.

Enjoy Taff
