The 4 1/4" wide body looks better than the 5" wide body....

Do you all mean the width of the neck is to narrow? It will be 1" x 1" including the finger board...

Looks like a great project. The proportions are nice, neck dimentions good. One consideration, regardless of neck material, a truss rod will be a serious bonus. In the short term, the neck will be fine. In the long term, not. Taking a chance, after all that work, that any string tension will make the neck settle into a proper alignment is a risky bet. Having a truss will enable you to adjust the string action and counteract the pulling forces of the strings against the neck. 

In that respect, having a truss would also enable you to add one more string, which would utilize the middle pole on your pickup. And it gives a better playability. 

Any ways, just another way to look at it, and look forward to your journey's results.

Would a 1/4 inch in size square tube be enough to re-enforce the neck?
