So I bought this cigar box (this is my first attempt at a CGB guitar by the way), and it has this sticker on it. It cover pretty much the entire top, and I wanted to keep the design that's on the sticker. I am thinking about tracing it on the box so I could later paint it on, I also want to stain the box. So my question is do I stain first then paint or paint then stain? Also what paint should I use?

do you have a scanner and printer ? - if so you can scan the box to get a exact copy of the design then print off the design on some paper - next is to coat the paper with danish oil - put it on with a cloth let it soak in then wipe off any excess leave it to dry overnight
then cut out your designe and stick on the box with Wall Paper paste leave to dry overnight so any wrinkles will dry out you should end up with a nice smooth design then clear coat it with some acrylic varnish to make it more durable

or you could always print the design onto some water slide Decal paper and apply that - you can buy water slide paper from ebay

heres one i just did using the White paper method

That sounds like a lot of work, why not leave the 'real' label on it? It is part of a cigar box after all.
@MichaelS
Yeah, originally that would definitely be a lot of work. I would like to keep the label on it, but the label is kind of coming off anyway. So I'll probably go with what JUJU suggested. That would be a lot easier. Or maybe I'll just cut the edges of the label so that it fits better on the box. I'm still deciding on what to do.

By the way that, JUJU, that looks great.
