Michael;

 I chased after these things for a while, then ended up buying something like this:

In the end it was easy and cost about right, however if you are bound and determined to learn about electronics this will not do it, basically a hook it up to a speaker, add a box and some knobs and you are done like dinner.

Thanks Ron.  I really like that idea too for a starter.  I have to build confindence from the wife before she allows me to invest in to much.  When she sees how everyone enjoys what I make and will even pay for it.  Then I can invest.  Thank you very much for the links.

No those look like that have audio video connectors.  Do you have to change them out?

Maybe I have the wrong link the ones I was thinking abut run on a 9Volt battery, they are out their and come from Hong Kong and are cheap, some have free shipping, I will hunt around again, I had bought 2 a while back.     Cheers Ron

Yeah, I just finished my CB gitty amp kit.  I had wired it wrong and burned up the board by grounding the speaker to the main ground. So I ordered another board. I must be honest, I wish I had my money back. It is NOT loud like they advertise. I would not recommend these to my worst enemy, sorry. Other parts from CB gitty are great no problems. I wish I would have read something like I'm writing before wasting that money. Hands down total pos. 

I spent about as much as a used micro cube!  OG

CBGitty advertises this amp as a 2.5W amp. Can you direct me to the part where it says how loud it is?

 

You wired the first one wrong, hardly the fault of the seller.

Yes, and I quote-

So I took"surprising amount of great sound" and took that for being loud I guess. Which it is not. 

This quote can be found on the "wiring example diagram" for the 2.5 watt amp circuit board instructions.

Yes I wired the first one wrong, I wrote that there too. I am just being as honest as I can about this, even when wired correctly it is hardly even a kids toy!

Now I understand people like to build stuff and like seeing good end results, that is why I am here. But had I read an honest review like mine I may have not spent the money on it. Trust me I have spent hundreds of dollars with CB Gitty and I will continue to do so.

Also I did not blame the seller for me wiring it wrong, Yes that is the first mistake I have ever made.LOL

If I have to put an output jack on the build, so I can plug it into a real amp or powered speaker what do I need a 2.5 watt amp for?

That is why I started this thread.  There are so many kits and parts out there as well as threads and instructions for building.  Here is the problem.  Unless you are an electronics person then it all might as well be in Chinese.  When someone less experienced is looking for something then the electronics geeks take ahold of it and start running with all the lingo and lose most of us.  I want the U.S. Army comic book version with lots of pictures and grunt proof build.  Once I get past the initial build I can understand it from there.  But it is hard to get started if you don't speak the language.

You are not going to get much power from anything running off a 9V battery. Using a wall powered power supply you can give the amp more current but even then a 9v supply will get you less than a watt into an 8 ohm speaker. Theoretically you could get just over 2W into a 4 ohm speaker. A efficient guitar speaker will put out 'a surprising amount of sound' I guess but run of the mill speakers will barely get warmed up. Somebody using one on youtube.

At best it is a bedroom practice amp or if you really want to go sit out in the woods and pluck away. I have a IC amp that runs on 12V, it does put out a decent amount of sound on 12V. But playing beside an acoustic it will just keep up in volume if you do not mind a bit of distortion.

 

On the other hand I have a car stereo omp in a cabinet with a 8" speaker. It will put out enough sound in a bedroom where you would be hard pressed belting out a tune (no mic) and keeping up with it. Apples to oranges though, both run off 12V, one puts out less than a watt while the other might do 10W.

So what you are saying is that if you buy a kit that says it has "great sound" but don't wire enough juice to it then you won't get that "great sound".  That would make sence.
