OK I know this is stupid but last night I was wondering do Atheist sing the Blues about the Devil.. Or go to the Cross Roads and make a deal... Maybe if he waits long enough he'll get the blues from waiting?
Well, i do... I'm an Athiest and i sing Blues about the devil and some Gospel aswell.
I went to the crossroads one day and i sat there with my guitar till someone came..... a dark fellow wearing sunglasses. I said:" are you the Devil comming to claim my soul sir?" And he said :"no i'm the parkranger and you need to get out of here, your tresspassing!" Been an Athiest ever since........ (just kidding)
I guess the actual words your singing isnt as important as the feeling your putting into your blues, if you fear the devil and sing about that its fear what drives your emotional tone, you may not believe in a devil or god but evreyone knows fear so its i.m.o accessable for evreyone, you just have to find wich sort of fear drives you best and you can sing evreything you want.
Well there is the idea of a literal Judeo-Christian Satan, but there are all sorts of symbolism and metaphors associated with the idea of the devil, that can be meaningful for people with faith and without. I think anyone can sing about anything they like really. I am pretty sure Christians aren't meant to make deals with the devil either!
LOL. This reminds me of those questions like, if a tree falls in the forest, and there is no one there, does it make a sound?, or What is the sound of one hand clapping? All very good questions, but require non intellectual spontaneous answers.
Ain't no heaven... ain't no burning hell...
where I'm going, when I die, ain't nobody gonna tell!
