Diamond Plate for CBG

Has anyone ever used diamond plate for a CBG?

I'm thinking it would be a nice touch for the bottom of my license plate guitar.

This is the design I'm going with and the diamond plate would cover the bottom of the box.

I've never worked with diamond plate before so I don't know the difference of thick vs. thin. I was thinking of just painting a 1/8" hobby board black to match the ebony fret-board, but I think diamond plate would add a nice look (though i don't know how/if it would affect sound quality.

Are there places to buy diamond plate to a specific dimension? Else, it seems you need specialized tools to cut.
