bridge (or Saddle actually) question

hey all,

On my latest build I am wanting to use a prop 45 colt cartridge. The build is a lone ranger lunchbox and I want to use a silver bullet. Is there any drawbacks for a hollow saddle? it is a metal lunchbox and I am using piezos as I refuse to cut holes in the face so could that kill vibration transfer? I just wanted to check with the experts, may not change the design but wanted to ask. They make solid silver but they are 45 bucks each.

it depends entirely on how rigid it is. A guitar bridge ought be lightweight and inflexible. If it is able to move independently then it is able to waste a percentage of the energy which your strings drive into it. I think it ought be up to the job.

A bunch of guys have done bullet bridges around here, you're a bloodthirsty bunch.

When you make theme guitar you sometimes have to sacrifice tone. A bullet isn't the best bridge put they are cool.

You can press fit a piece of hard maple dowel inside the cartridge case. That will be light enough and be a good transmitter of the vibrations to the box. :-)

If you are worried about energy transfer from a hollow casing, then fill it with epoxy so that it is solid. On the other hand, I would just try it first. It will probably work fine.

If you are really in to it, you could split the bullet length wise so it sits flat on the lunch box. Fill it with lead or epoxy and it should be as solid as any other type of bridge.
