If you could only have one, which would it be?

I'm more concerned with cutting my own neck stock to size than the actual CBG build but the notching of my necks, headstocks and such would be a nice change from the hand saw/chizzle method I use now.

Just been shopping around and was curious what other more expearienced folks might think.

Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

Band saw, hands down. I could sell my table saw and not miss it.

Bandsaw. You can't cut complex shapes and curves with a table saw. Plus unless you have a REALLY big blade, my bandsaw will do 6" cut.

On the reverse of that, a table saw will cut through thick material easier.

Dont get a little bandsaw, they're toys...

Agrree with that, mine is a 12" and would be nicer if it were 14. It was free so I can't complain.  Check out grizzly tools they have some nice ones. I think Gitty has a grizzly

Band saw, I make my necks with the bandsaw mainly. I use a table saw to cut down large boards before milling them to size, but once they are a nice square stick its all band saw. You can also rip and re-saw with a bandsaw, lots of things can be done on it, it will open a whole new world of creativity. Wow now if I were only a bandsaw salesman. Try to find one with a fence, you may not think you need it but they sure come in handy if you have one (I don't but a board and 2 clamps works also)

Yer gonna hate me Dan but I recently picked up an old craftsman 12" bandsaw for $100 off craigslist. The old guy who sold it took really good care of it. I'm proud to have it.

Mine is a 12" craftsman too, seems like a good saw.

Thanks for the quick replies.  Looks as if a band saw is in my future.

For what it's worth, I have been shopping for a new saw, and saws larger than 9 inches seem a little hard to find. I was not able to find a 12 inch saw for less than $400 USD.

buy a used one, i got my jet for 225

Yea, been watching Craigslist for one.

bandsaw hands down
