if it is for a fretless, try a capo for under the strings, like a thin dowel or a bolt depending on the action. put it where a fret would be.<br />

Elastic bands and pencils work fine for me. Basically the same as what jim said really. I was thinking of making an adjustable duct tape strap once but never got round to it and made one out of an old pair of jeans instead. Can we have a picture of the duct tape strap? I like duct tape.
