"Kick the Can" Build-Off Winners!

FIRST PLACE:  George McLeod of Langley, British Columbia wins the "Kick the Can" Build-Off with his double neck Jack Daniel's guitar!
We asked you to build instruments from tin cans and metal containers in our "Kick the Can" contest...and you all delivered 13 pages of entries!
Judging was extremely difficult on this one, but one instrument stood out from the rest.  We proudly announce that George McLeod's "Double Jack" tenor guitar/bass hybrid has clinched the top-slot!  McLeod will get a $100 gift certificate from C. B. Gitty Crafter Supply and eternal bragging rights
Instrument description:  Got a bottle of "Jack" last Christmas... I immediately got an idea for a new build, but as you can see I had to do a lot of "research" while doing the design phase!
All of the parts, with the exception of the "Cherub GT6 G-Tone", were purchased from C.B. Gitty Crafter Supply.

The Jack Daniel's tin boxes are lined with poplar. The through body necks are maple. Tenor fret-board is CB Gitty Peruvian walnut. Bass fretless finger-board is red oak. .The finish is a combination of Ebony coloured (colored) Aniline dye and high gloss lacquer.
The fret markers were cut from 1/4" aluminum round rod. Bass fretless frets were applied using a silver-metallic Sharpie marker pen. The x-connector bars were cut from 1" square aluminum tubing.
I made the wiring harness using a uke rod piezo for the tenor and a 3-pole rod piezo for the bass wired in parallel. The wiring harness is connected to the Cherub GT6 G-Tone "gizmo" with a 3mm mono plug.
I strongly believe my next build will be based on beer "research".
Gotta go. Gotta date with the kegerator in my man cave.
Rock on!

SECOND PLACE:  Christie's Zephyr Cream Soda Tin guitar by Delvero
"This is a Christie's Zephyr Creme soda tin from the early 1900's. Inside of box is reinforced with wood for strength as these tins are quite thin.  Maple neck with Danelectro style headstock, Old Lowe f-holes and bridge created by Randy Bretz..."
Delvero wins a $50 gift certificate from C. B. Gitty Crafter Supply.

THIRD PLACE:  The Bachelor Pad Set by Anonymous Pick
Built from an antique 1940's / 50's Wolverine co. kitchen tin litho play set.

  1. The sink guitar - the taps actually work on this sink. There is a reservoir in the back that you can fill with water or beer, then turn the tiny tap knobs , and it will run into the sink. You could pour yourself a mini beer if ya want. (Although I don't advise drinking anything from this thing ) The guitar part is pretty much the same set up electronically as a Swamp Witch, there is a mini humbucker hiding under the tea towel and jack under the neck.  It has high action for slideand the reso from the tin acoustically is awesome. 3 strings, 24 scale .
  2. The stove / stomp box - door is fitted with a guitar string through the back , and connected to a board pedal.  This slams the door as you stomp/ tap your foot.  It sounds pretty cool and has an inner shelf you can set clangables on for more tones.
  3. The fridge amp - Yup, that's a real fender mini amp stuffed in there.  You can even get a cool oil can reverb kinda sound with the door shut. The handles on the freezer and fridge door both operate and lock the door in place, or release by lifting it as the real handles did.
