2011 Cigar Box Nation Christmas Album
I know it seems early, but Christmas will be here before you know it.
Shane had organized the Christmas albums in the past, but in his absence, CB Gitty asked me if I would like to coordinate it for this year.
For any of the new folks here on the Nation, we have compiled a yearly album of songs played, composed, sung, or whatever, by our members. The primary requirement is that the recording be of fairly good quality. For example, If you are singing, we want to be able to hear your voice. You get my drift...
The 2009 Christmas album contained 23 songs, and the 2010 Christmas contained 40 songs. More songs is not necessarily better, but we really don't have a limit on the number of songs we can include.
You can submit a cover of a traditional song, or you can do something you wrote/composed yourself.
Please respond in this thread if you would like to participate, and include the song that you would like to have included in the album. Once we have the final album compiled, it will be posted as a free download, and anyone will be able to download it. So, you will be able to pass the links along to your friends and family.
I will post more information later.
Thanks
Dan

Permalink Reply by C. B. Gitty (Ben) on November 9, 2011 at 8:56am The title of the album will include the word Christmas. It is up to you whether you want to submit content or not.
Permalink Reply by the anonymous pick on November 9, 2011 at 9:36am really ..? WOW . and thats not bias ? lol.. well .. i wrote a reply here and erased it 3 times thinking it over .
out of respect, (ironic i know , considering ) i will have to sleep on it and maybe consider if this site is really for me or not before i protest and educate and spread further awareness on the topic .
heck if you dont want to change the album title .. maybe just change the site title to "christian box nation " to avoid instances like this in the future .
Permalink Reply by C. B. Gitty (Ben) on November 9, 2011 at 9:53am I think it is important to try to stay calm and level-headed about all of this.
Since its inception in late 2008, CBN has put together a Christmas album based on the freely-submitted recordings of its members. This has been one of many other events, contests and happenings that CBN has either sponsored or taken a part in. With all of our activities, groups, forums, etc, each member can choose whether it is for them or not. I choose not to take part in groups devoted to subjects in which I have no interest, or which represent viewpoints with which I do not agree.
This Christmas album is one small part of what Cigar Box Nation is. As the headquarters for the CBG movement, we try to welcome folks from a very wide range of backgrounds. From anarchist punk rockers to physicist university professors to christian conservatives from the hills of Tennessee. It is inevitable that with such a broad range of interests and viewpoints, there will occasionally be some sparks. And in my opinion, it is foolhardy to try to think that in every case, every single person from every background and viewpoint can be made entirely happy about every detail.
If you feel uncomfortable taking part in a Christmas-themed activity due to your beliefs and background, then that is entirely your choice and your right. No one will force you to submit anything, nor will we force you to listen to the tracks. In fact, you are encouraged to try to organize a non-Christian holiday album if you want, like Dan Sleep is doing for this Christmas-themed one. If there is enough interest in it and you put the time and effort into pulling it off, then I assure you I will give it equal billing.
So I challenge you, and anyone else who feels that a Christmas-themed album excludes them, to do something positive and proactive about it. Instead of devoting your energy to waging a negative campaign of protest, put it into something positive. If your goal really is to raise awareness, I cannot think of any better way than that.
Permalink Reply by Slowpaw Steve T on November 9, 2011 at 10:09am AP - the brief as i understood it wasn't an order, just an invitation to just produce a simple song for the CBN Christmas Album - nothing more challenging than that, just an appropriately warm peaceful piece between friends at a traditional time of year, i live in a multicultural society where all faiths seem to appreciate this time of year, we can do as much protesting as we like in the new year, but for now it is a chance to produce something that is ordinary and fits in to everyone's beliefs - peace! Permalink Reply by the anonymous pick on November 9, 2011 at 10:16pm """ a chance to produce something that is ordinary and fits in to everyone's beliefs """ ,.... um ... kinda exactly what i was asking for .
anyway , i confirmed my suspicions , and made my point .
and the resulting actions ,.( or lack there-of ) , states and exposes theirs .
at least we all know where we stand .
thanks for your time .
Permalink Reply by C. B. Gitty (Ben) on November 10, 2011 at 7:08am I consider the matter closed, and I have removed some replies accordingly. Everyone here has the opportunity to find positive outlet for their creativity in a way consistent with their beliefs, if they are willing to put the time and effort into it.

Permalink Reply by Dan Sleep on November 10, 2011 at 12:42pm On a different topic, when the final post is made with the list of songs that will be included in it, I wanted to post the list with the song, and the artist.
In that post, I thought it would be nice to include a hyperlink to the artist's CBN page, or perhaps their own web site.
So, the options are:
No link.
Link to the artist's CBN personal page
Link to other web site.
Let me know what your preference is.

...will do nicely! (-:
Permalink Reply by C. B. Gitty (Ben) on November 10, 2011 at 1:38pm I would ask that anyone who wants to continue discussing the various sociological sources of modern religions, holidays and practices please do so via private message or in a separate forum thread, so that this thread can stay focused on the business of getting this Christmas album wrapped up. Thanks...
